Voice Solutions: Enabling the proliferation of voice communication over IP networks. |

Convergence of wireless and wireline infrastructure and services enable Telecom providers to tap into the wireless trend, accelerate wide market diffusion, and provide consumers and enterprise customers with an alternative or complementary value proposition to traditional cellular communications. New technologies such as Voice over IP (VoIP) and WiMAX long range wireless broadband further extend device capability, drive device convergence and promote the rapid adoption of voice communications over IP networks.
VeriSilicon offers an extensive array of voice technology and products that enable the next generation of VoIP, VoWiFi and VoWiMAX devices for the mobile broadband market. |
VeriSilicon's solutions include ZSP voice processors and licensable cores, a comprehensive software suite and bundled device/software packages and reference designs to accelerate the development of the next generation of voice enabled mobile broadband devices. |
Target applications include:
VoWiFI Dual-mode Cellular Phone The cellular phone, whether it is based on GSM or CDMA standards, is morphing into all in one device for communication and entertainment. VoIP over Wireless LAN medium provides local mobile access communication in both residential and enterprise environments. A single cellular phone with VoWiFi capability can act as a cordless phone in the residential environment, a mobile phone during commuting and an enterprise phone in the work environment. A single device which works across multiple network environments offering a very low cost telephone service enabled by VoIP capability makes this a high growth segment over the next 5 years. |
VeriSilicon provides ZSP cores, reference silicon and an integrated suite of software called Z.Voice to address the VoWiFi market as a voice co-processor to cellular baseband chipsets. ZSP solutions providing extremely low power with high throughput at low cost makes wideband IP Phone possible with speakerphone functionality. |
ATA/VoIP Gateway Analog Telephone Adapter (ATA) and VoIP Gateways provide VoIP functionality to Analog Phones in wired Ethernet Environments. The low cost ATA to add VoIP functionality to DSL modems, cable modems and other broadband access mechanisms is now being integrated into residential routers and integrated access devices. |
VerSilicon's ZSP solutions can add VoIP functionality to ATA, VoIP Gateways and integrated access devices as a co-processor and can be easily integrated as silicon or at system level with Z.Voice API and drivers. |
Wideband IP Phones VoIP networks have no inherent bandwidth limitations such as it exits in analog telephone networks. This opportunity makes wideband codecs possible for enhanced voice communications in Enterprise and cellular networks and makes certain sounds such as 's' and 'f' much clearer compared to PSTN networks. The transition to wideband in both wireless and enterprise networks is gaining traction and VeriSilicon is well positioned with complete solutions to address these emerging trends. |
Wideband codecs require about 3 times the performance compared to narrow band codecs and VeriSilicon's ZSP DSP requires one-third the performance compared to RISC processors. This efficiency advantage results in significantly lower power and lower cost. |
AEC/Speaker Phones Speaker phones are ubiquitous in both wired IP phones and dual-mode cellular phones. A full-duplex Acoustic Echo Canceller (AEC) with noise reduction requires a capable DSP with the right AEC software to efficiently implement this function. |
VeriSilicon has the right DSP core along with AEC software that provides a high quality speaker phone functionality in noisy environments. |
Skype/IM Phones Instant Messaging (IM) with text is now being enhanced with voice communications using the same codecs as used in standards based VoIP phones. There are both proprietary IM standards such as Skype, Yahoo, AOL, etc. and open standards such as Googletalk based on XMPP. Even peer-to-peer SIP is emerging for combined text and voice messaging. The voice function implemented on the ZSP DSP can work with any signalling mechanisms implemented on any controller. This flexibility to add VoIP functionality with VeriSilicon's ZSP solutions makes it a very attractive proposition, which further benefits from independence of the proprietary nature of the signalling mechanism. |
VoWiMAX Phones Broadband Wireless Wide Area Network as defined in IEEE 802.16 standard for both fixed and mobile environments when coupled with mesh wireless LAN mechanisms is providing and effective alternative to GSM and CDMA networks. The high bandwidth nature of WiMAX coupled with IP based infrastructure makes VoIP the basic mechanism for voice communications for WiMAX networks. |
VeriSilicon's ZSP cores, reference silicon and complementary software are ideally suited for VoIP functions as well as baseband functions of WiMAX solutions.
