Z.Turbo^TM Create Your Own Extension

The Z.Turbo accelerator is an innovative architectural feature in the ZSP second generation architecture (G2) that allows users to add their own instruction extensions and specialized hardware acceleration. General-purpose DSP can perform the great majority of signal processing functions. However, there a small set of functions, which lend better to hard-wired logic such as motion estimation in video or surface rendering in 3D graphics. The ZSP architecture offers the best of both worlds: the programmability of a general-purpose DSP engine, plus the Z.Turbo accelerator for application-specific enhancement --all supported transparently through the same programming model.
